Motivation

When our team was first coming up with project ideas, the big emphasis was practicality. We wanted to make a machine that was not just for the show, but something that could actually help us in our lives. We touched on ideas like face-washing machine, laundry folding machine, and even a firefighting robot, until we sat down and said, hey, why don't we make a shoe manager robot? Because managing shoes is something that all of us need to do but nobody has time for, and, well, robots do not mind the smell.

Concept Genereation

We decided that our machine should be much smarter than a simple elevator for shoes: how do we take out as much human involvement as possible? To replace humans, the machine will have to do just what we do. It will sense if there are shoes to be organized. Then it will scan the rack and measure the space available for those shoes. If there is not enough space, the machine will create space to put them in by organizing shoes already on the rack.
